These range from the level of Proposed regional railway corridorurban growth outlined for Canterbury; future requirements for increased employmentopportunities; environmental issues relatingto existing green and blue infrastructure;transport, traffic and accessibility issues;social impacts; design quality of newresidential flat buildings and the lack ofdiversity and affordability in new housingstock; schools and community facilities;retaining aspects of the local characterand heritage as well as limited opportunity Existing Sydenham to Bankstown railway corridorfor public participation throughout theimplementation of the strategy. It is estimated that Sydneys population will grow by approximately 1.7million people over the next 20 years. To meet the needs of a bigger 26population, 725,000 new homes and 817,000 new jobs need to beprovided within the Sydney metropolitan area (NSW Government 2016).Increasing the capacity of the public transport network to assist inaccommodating this growth is a key priority for the NSW Government.As such, the Sydney Metro is a major piece of infrastructure investmentthat has facilitated the preparation of the Sydenham to Bankstown UrbanRenewal Corridor Strategy, which is a framework that provides principlesfor the future cohesive redevelopment of this urban renewal corridor toprovide 35,400 new homes and 8,700 jobs over the next 20 years or 5%of NSWs required total for the same period.Master of Urban Development & Design 2018-2019studio1 - 1_2 - v1 8pt.indd 5 26/11/2019 4:38:48 PM'
